OS Daily Thread for Sunday 6th October

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Fish fed, medication taken, hubby has a cuppa in bed and I have my cuppa beside me.
I shall have porridge for breakfast in a while & do a full cooked breakfast for hubby when he gets up.
Molly, I hope your DD is ok and that Molly & Poppy are ok too.
PP, I hope you and your DD are coping with uni too.
LW I hope you get new visitors soon.
Hugs to Hilly, Bemuzed, and anyoe else in need
Plans for today include vacuuming upstairs, I did downstairs y'day, prepping a bag of windfall apples for the freezer, ironing hubby's uniform for next week and taking up one of the dresses I bought yesterday, it's almost ankle length on me, the other one is ok, it's a minidress, so comes to my knees! I planted out the hanging baskets yesterday, took a while as we have 12 of them and I did an extra one for DD as she has a bracket by her front door.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning everyone

Hugs to all those that are feeling sad/poorly x

Sunny, bright and dry here this morning. Washing on the line.

DH and myself up enjoying a cuppa in the peace and quiet - boys still in their pits.

Dinner last night was a lazy fish, chips, peas/curry sauce from the chippy - by the time we'd got back and collected boys etc it was getting late and I don't have that much in as I didn't shop before we went away on Thursday morning. This morning we've having a cooked brekkie, then we have a caravan meeting this afternoon. I have defrosted some beef and will be adding some veggies etc and gravy to it to leave it to cook in the slow cooker whilst we're out then I'll add some dumplings etc and will cook some extra veg to serve it with later.

Funeral all went as well as these things can and there was a reasonable amount of people there, so she got a good send off. Our family we went to support had booked a restaurant for a meal on Friday night, it was just up the road to the hotel that we stayed in and we'd had a walk near there when we'd arrived on Thursday afternoon. It was a world cuisine buffet restaurant - it's so much per head and you just help yourself to a plate and then serve yourself whatever food you want - was a really good restaurant and good value - there was starters, roast, italian, chinese, indian, salads, hot dogs, soup, chilli, and then desserts fresh fruit, gateau, hot sponge, custard, miniature flapjacks, millionaires shortbread, etc, ice cream machine with all the sprinkles, meringues, nuts etc. It was excellent venue and a really good idea if you've got a mixed group of people where some people want different food to others - you'd need to be a bit awkward if you couldn't find something there you'd like! All the food was piping hot and they were continually making sure everything was stocked and that the serving areas were clean etc. The restaurant was constantly busy whilst we were there and our table was booked early for 6pm as the wake after the funeral was just tea/coffee and scones/biscuits. It's a shame we don't have anything like that near here as the boys would really like it.

Will need to stop off at the SM on the way home tomorrow night - will make a list later and just do a small shop of the fresh bits we need - milk, bread, meats etc for pack ups, fruit, veggies. Back to work tomorrow - no doubt will be a manic Monday as they all seem to be at the moment! We still have people off sick and on hols too, so that doesn't help.

    Keep safe and well x

    Morning all,
back to reality after our trip to Edinburgh. DH enjoyed it and was not unwell at any time as I made him take a taxi when needed - £5 to get to the top of the Royal Mile was not going to break the bank!

The best part was a visit to Britannia - and we ended up having lunch in the tearoom as £12.50 for a soup & sandwich platter seemed reasonable for homemade soup, well filled sandwiches and posh chips.

Dashing out to Harvest now! x

Hester - thank you for thinking of me. Molly and Poppy are ok now - Poppy is being very courteous so really hope it was a one-off. Miss Molly is doing just fine and started her new job yesterday so i feel relieved xx I have also just peeled and cored a load of apples but have this fantastic new machine so it was a doddle really. You sound so much better now x

Off to parents later and waiting for online shop x
Hugs for a good day xx
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.

I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.

Feeling a bit under the weather after my flu jab yesterday so going to take it easy today. Got the WM on, and another 3 loads ready to go in.
Having some cottage pie for tea that I defrosted yesterday.
Tempted to go into town later on but I'll see how I feel.
For now I'm happy sitting on the sofa with my crocheting and the TV on.
Hope you all have good Sundays!
the only debt left now is on credit cards! The evil loan has gone!! :j:j
  • Good morning everyone :)

Lovely day today so the lines are already full of washing and now the towels, bath mats and shower curtain are in the machine.

Need to do a few bits of shopping and want to go for a walk and see the beautiful Autumn colours. Will try and list a few ebay bits and pieces later.

No idea what is for dinner so need to go and raid the freezer and do the inventory at the same time, then can sit and make the meal planner later. Cooked brekkie/brunch planned for later.

GDD wants to do some Decopatch but it's all so expensive so am looking out for some cheaper substitutes. Am sure I have seen the papier mache animal models somewhere like HB and they sell craft papers and PVA glue too. Will have a look in B&M too.

Well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for those who need or just want them. Keep well and safe and have a super day :)

  • Morning all.

Lovely sunny morning here in Essex.

We went out for a lovely meal last night courtesy of husbands boss. Husband has been working long hours lately so his boss told him to take us out & put it in expenses. So we all had a 3 course meal.

Got some towels out & another load of towels in. Where do they all come from?!

Not sure what to do for dinner tonight. I also need to do an inventory & a menu plan. The man over the back is going to give me some cooking apples & pears so that's really lovely. All the neighbours seem really nice around here. Better than the last place where lots of them were gossips & would speak to you one day & ignore you the next! I cba with stuff like that.

NPM, your 2 looked cute in front of the washing machine this morning! :D

I am going to finish my coffee & get on with the day.

Sorry I don't post daily, I will make more of an effort

    Morning

Had a lie in this morning :o and I still feel, tired
Beautiful day the washing is washing lol . Need to get in the garden and tidy up leaves .

DH finished the radiator in the bathroom , had all sorts of leaking traumas lol but now it's done . The bathroom looks as if a herd of elephants has been through :T so does the bedroom as he used it as his workshop  so cleaning that up is on the agenda today.

I've got some material to make a couple of scatter cushions for dd1 s bedroom to match her new quilt cover. However I haven't got any zips so will have to postpone making those .

NPM that must have been a shock , did Dr Noah save the day ? Or was it his mum :T

    Off for a shower

Have a good day everyone xx
