Apologies if I'm missing something obvious here.
You are not only being given 7 hours. You are being given 160 hours. Each of your days is 8 hours long, therefore you take 8 hours away from 160 each time you book 8 hours off. Why should you be paid for 8 hours holiday pay, but only use 7 hours holiday entitlement?
Trust me, your employer is right. It is normal to calculate it in hours.
Full timers holiday entitlement is 25 *7 hours = 175 hours
Your entitlement is 32/35 of 175 hours =160 hours
When you book a/l, assuming you want to get paid 8 hours holiday pay, then you need to use 8 hours of your holiday entitlement.
A full timer working the standard pattern will only get paid 7 hours holiday pay for the day they book off, and therefore only need to use 7 hours of their holiday entitlement.
Does it make it easier to understand if you forget "days" and instead think in hours. You want 8 hours paid leave, then you use 8 hours entitlement.
But you are given exactly the same entitlement as everyone else, just pro-rated down by the number of hours you work.0 -
I say you need to tell the boss your daily rate and expect to get that rate for every day you take as holiday.
If they still refuse and actually pay just 7 hours for a day's holiday, say they are making an unlawful deduction from your wages and you will ask your lawyer to write to them.0 -

You can be given only 7 hours a day by being given more days.
Your employers have already taken into account your longer hours in calculating how many days leave they are giving you. I agree that telling you that you are getting 22.5 short days is a strange way of doing it but if you want it in long days then the calculation which got to 22.5 is wrong.
If you want them to tell you that you are entitled to 20 days at 8 hours each I imagine they would oblige.But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.

Here's the email from my employer telling me how many hols I get. You will see they have told me how many days I get then multiplied it by 7 hours to tell me how many hol hours I get. I do get my hols in hours now days:
Annual Leave
25 days per year, but works 32 out of 35 hours a week. Therefore
pro-rated = 32/35*25 = 22.85 Rounded up to the nearest half day is 23
days.
In hours this is 161 hours
Bank Holiday
8 days per year. Pro-rated = 32/35*8 = 7.31 Rounded up to nearest half
day is 7.5 days In hours this is 52.5 hours0 -

In terms of standard 7 hour days, the OP works 1.143 days for 1 standard day. i.e. 8/7
Multiply that by 4 days per week = 4.572
So the leave entitlement in terms of days is 25 x 4.572/5 = 22.86
As a check, the OP does 32 hours out of 35 = 0.914 of a week
25 days x 0.914 = 22.85 STANDARD days.
22.85 x 7 = 160 hours (near as dammit)
So for the OP that's 160/8 (his/her daily hours) = 20 days0 -
Stautory annual leave is now 28 days; additional 8 days Bank Holiday are subject to previous practice within a company. If the BHs have always been additional, even when holiday entitlemant was perhaps 10 days they cannot move the goalposts. However a new contract with a new company can state that the 28 days includes BHs.
I work 40 hours over 2 weeks (5 x 8 hour days) & therefore get 20 hours pay or holiday allowance for each week. Whatever days I take off use up 8 hours deducted from my annual total. Eg I might work 3 days (=24 hours) in 2 weeks & have therefore take 16 hours paid holiday. In addition to my annual leave allowance of 112 hours (28 days by 4 hours as I am half-time over a full week) I get 32 hours added on for BHs (8 x 4 hrs as I am a half-timer). So everytime I take a whole day off, be it holiday or BH, I deduct 8 hours.
BTW I am the Payroll Administrator for my employer so have to be squeaky clean in administering my own holidays & sick leave etc!!0 -
