Deciphering a Eye Test Prescription

Hi
My OH had his eyes tested last year and bought some reading glasses from the opticians. When we go anywhere he invariably forgets them so I wanted to buy a cheap pair to keep in the car/my handbag for those occasions.

I've asked for a copy of the prescription but I don't know what it means.

R: 00/-0.50 x 85
L: 00/-0.25 x 140
+ 1.25 ADD R&L

Can anyone tell me what this means, thanks.

That's a full optical prescription you've posted up - it describes the lens power needed for distance (in this case insignificant)and the additional power for near, which is added to the distance prescription to arrive at the reading prescription.

If you're looking to get some ready mades, closest is +1.00. Should work OK but will be slightly inferior to custom made ones.
