finance charges/bank charges ?

Hi this is my first attempt at this so if this has been asked before I apologize.

I took out a car loan about 4 yrs ago and it is @90% paid off, I recieved a letter yesterday saying that I am £263 in arrears with arrears charges of £952

I have heard a lot on the radio and seen on this website that a lot of people are challenging the banks re.charges so I am wondering if loan companies are governed by the same rules. I owe a little bit more than this (1200) on the car so was thinking of writing to them and suggesting that I pay this as a final settlement. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, Thanks

From what i have read on here you can but send the letters available on here. Expect to be fobbed off but you should win if you persevere.
