Need new armchairs (or covers)

Hi all!

We are in dire need of either new armchairs or new covers for the existing ones. We managed to get two really good armchairs a few years ago cheaply from a friend. The trouble is they have white covers, and we have a child and two cats. They have not fared well and are torn and dirty. :o
The structure of the chairs is sound, so I could get away with new covers. Though I have no idea what size I would need or the best place to get them. Any ideas anyone? Or can anyone point me in the right direction of somewhere to buy new ones that won't cost hundreds of £ each?!
Thanks.:)

Check gumtree for new armchairs. Today I have seen 2 offers of tube chairs on my local Gumtree.

I've made armchair covers - if you are at all handy with a sewing machine it can be done easily if you are happy with a comfy look - a very structured one is more difficult to get exactly right. An easier way to do it is not to make an exact template but make something like this:

    http://www.chairandsofacovers.co.uk/p/product/0810034211-Armchair+Cover+100%25+Cotton+Colour%3A+Linen/

With a big enough piece of material you can drape it on and tuck it round tight and then sew the bows wherever needed (or other less frilly ties) to keep it there - if you do this, cover the bottom cushion and maybe the back separately as it helps keep the whole thing in place. I've done it with cotton dust covers which a very posh friend wanted desperately to know where I bought my "Egyptian cotton covers" ;) (£15 for 2 very large neutral completely washable sheets) google for "how to" tutorials.
    :AA/give up smoking (done) :)
