Nationwide - 3 weeks till valuation

Hi all,

We applied for a nationwide mortgage this week and have been told today that the valuation is for three weeks time! This seems a very long time to me, and is likely to slow things right down! There is no chain on either side so this could be a quick job for them?

Is this normal for nationwide to take so long? Would we be able to call and ask for a date much sooner?

What have other people experienced recently with nationwide?

lenders are struggling with a backlog of valuations, particularly in some areas like South London.

3 weeks is not too bad

We went with halifax and it was about 9 days. But our mortgage offer arrived two working days later. Searches are still being done anyway so I doubt it'd slow it down.

13 days for us with Nationwide, would have been under a week, but the first firm they appointed suddenly decided they didn't have anybody available to do it anymore. East-Midlands.

It's not the lender, it's the lack of surveyors working for the survey firms the lenders use. Countrywide, Colleys, Esurv etc are all flat-out trying to cover the upswing in mortgage business.

Use your own surveyor for any extended inspection/report as it takes longer to get the lender surveyor to do both, as they have fewer surveyors qualified to do the extras.

  • I had to wait 28 days with NW. It's normal.

We used Countrywide. It was over 5 weeks with us.

We have no chain but from offer to competion it has taken 18 weeks in total!

Had to wait just over three weeks, annoying but seems like the norm at the moment.

We had application in with Nationwide and they sent it to Countrywide, and were told survey would be 3.5 weeks. We called Nationwide and they said that we could request Countrywide to 'panel' the survey - sending the valuation to somebody else on the panel of surveyors. Connells were able to do the survey within a week!

I went through Halifax and got told there would up to a 10 week wait with Colleys which is obviously ridiculous, after much badgering and a few moans they sourced it out to Countywide and had it done a week later with report sent to me the following day.

Colleys did advise me if you get your solicitor involved they usually take them cases as a priority and get done asap

Good Luck and have hope it can be done quicker! :)
  • We have been told the same from Nationwide... three weeks to do the valuation. That sounds like a very long time!
