Thank you Fatbelly,
I think i may write to halifax and see if they can confirm this.0 -
How many digits in the HBOS reference number?
Hi Fatbelly, You asked about numbers in the account and I have received a letter today and it has got the acc. number on it.
After a capital letter and forward slash there are 9 numbers in total.
~e.g - E/12345678-1
Is the amount of numbers significant? Many thanks.

I was hoping we might get a 16-digit one (credit card, can't be joint)
or 14 digit (or possibly 10) for an overdraft
so that at least we knew what it was.
Can anyone identify it from that reference?0 -

Thank you for your reply,
No, i have not put in the actual acc. numbers (if that's what you meant)
If not, no, i have no bank paperwork with this number. As i said, i don;t recall ever signing up to a joint bank acc (only joint mortgage which has different numbers). Could he (ex) have added me as a 'additional cardholder' at the time? (account is not far off 20yrs old)
The letter today has cranked up a notch in terms of pressure, just like it did when this first started. I wonder if the bank would tell me anything over the phone tomorrow? Still haven't had reply from letter sent.
Many thanks.0 -
I think that's a Building Society Roll number. A hang-over from the days when Halifax was one.
Unfortunately that narrows it down to either a bank account or a mortgage account, either of which could be joint (and the additional cardholder thing was just a red herring).
If you're sure that the mortgage had a different number (and presumably you know whether it was paid off in full) then this is a bank account and you say there was never a joint one.
Your ex's overdrafts would have been cleared by his bankruptcy. So how is this your debt?
You have asked them to prove it and they haven't done so. I would not be phoning them.
Your ex's recollections do not appear to be clear. I think it unlikely he would recommence payments to this in the lead-up to his bankruptcy and so am suspicious about the claimed 2008 payment. Even if this was a joint account, this may already be statute barred. If Lowells try court action you have 2 strands to your defence.
On their dates, which may be fake, it goes statute barred next year.0
