Old Utility Debt EON

Hi everyone,
We moved house earlier this year, and I've had a letter to our new house saying we ow ever £1000 in utility debt, my partner was meant to be paying this, but obviously didn't as from what I can gather, it's over a long period of time.

Anyway, this has been passed to a DC and they want the money else they'll visit our house, take us to court etc etc.
Question is, what can they do now we no longer live at that property which the debt is associated with? Will they accept small payments or can I include them in a DMP? Or can they actually get us in a lot of trouble?

Today is the day I've finally had enough of all of our debts and am going to do something about trying to clear them, we aren't kids anymore unfortunately.

Thanks guys :)

    Hi

First have you asked them for proof of the debt?

Do you know the period the debt covers? and does that agree to the period you lived in that property?
Does it tie in with bills you received for that debt? Or have they supplied you with copy bills?
Does the last bill tie in with the meter reading when you left that property?
If partner has made any payments to the account have these been reflected in the balance?

To answer your questions - they may accept payment in installments and may be happy with it being included in a DMP, although they could take court action if the chose to do so.
