Photographers are being invited to push the boundaries of their imagination in a new Leicester Mercury picture contest, which starts today.
The theme of the competition, being run in conjunction with Leicester Photography, is Spirit of Leicestershire.
The theme can be interpreted however you like – it can be a person, a place, a mood or something totally different.
There are three prizes on offer. The picture judged the best of all the entries will receive £100 cash from Leicester Photography and will also have their work used as the cover image of the Leicester Mercury's Facebook page for December and January.
The runner-up prize is a meal for two at The White House, in Scraptoft Lane, Leicester, while the tasty treat for the third-place winner is fish, chips and peas at The Millennium Fish Bar, Saffron Lane, Leicester – voted Leicester Mercury Fish and Chip Shop of the Year when the award was last presented in 2011.
Andy Baker, the Mercury's chief photographer, said: "The competition is open to all photographers of any age, whether or not they live in this area.
"Photographs must have been taken in Leicester, Leicestershire or Rutland and they must be the entrants' own work."
Up to four images per person can be submitted and entries must include the entrant's name, age, address and a daytime contact number, along with a caption of the photo including where it was taken.
"We have run some really great photographic competitions and try to have as many pictures published in print or put on line as possible," said Andy.
The competition will end at midnight on Sunday, December 1. Normal Mercury competition terms and conditions apply.
Entries should be sent to:
