What ever you do buy dont forget the new rules on baggage limits of 23kg per item checked in, you may find that the larger tourer type of case is no longer any use as some airlines also limit the size a bag can be not to mention that you can but a tonne of stuff in the big tourer cases. if there are 2 people traveling who would normally share 1 bag then split your stuff over 2 bags.
Also some airlines also allow people to check in 2 bags and carry on restrictions on weight have been relaxed and you can take about 10kg on as hand luggage now0 -
You need to check with your airline as they all vary and even the routes they operate vary. I use Xl Airways and there policy is:
CABIN BAGGAGE
# Only one piece of hand baggage per passenger will be permitted in the cabin.
# Hand baggage must not exceed 45cm long x 56cm high x 25cm deep (approx 22ins x 17.7ins x 9.9ins) in dimension or 5kg in weight.
# It must be able to fit under the seat or in the overhead locker.
# In addition to the above, each passenger is allowed to take one normal sized carrier bag, containing duty free goods.
HOLD BAGGAGE
# Most destinations offer an allowance of 20kgs per person (not including Infants). For exact allowances please contact your Tour Operator or Travel Agent. If you have booked with XL.com please call them on 0870 169 0169. Whilst you can join your allowance together for the entire party, your per person allowance must not exceed 20kgs and you must make sure that no individual bag weighs over 32kgs for health and safety reasons. If it does you may be asked to repack at the airport.
# If you are flying to the Gambia (Banjul) from London Gatwick please make sure you do not take any more luggage than your allocated 20kg allowance. Due to size of the aircraft operating this route we cannot accept any excess luggage. restrictions are in place which mean 1 bag of 20kgs per person ONLY. There are no exceptions to this ruling, if you wish for further info please contact the pre-flight team on 0870 167 7747 or email customers@xl.com
# Excess Baggage will be charged at £5.00 per kg Short Haul and £8.00 per kg Long Haul and will be subject to load on the day of travel, this will be payable in local currency at a resort airport.
# Although Infants do not receive an allowance we are happy to carry one of the following free of charge: - Pushchair, Pram, Buggy, Travel Cot or Car Seat, we will also carry a small amount of nappies for carriage in the aircraft cabin.Cheers
