Biggest Threats to Cyclists?
Comments

Did you high-viz cause you to be run over - pretty damn unlikely.
Did your high-viz lower the odds of you being run over on every other day that you were not run over - pretty likely.
I dont think pretty damn likely counts as empirical data.
What about research showing drivers show less care around those wearing helmets and the like?
I suppose the taxi driver may have seen a cyclist on the pavement in 1982, so its fair game0 -
Custardy points to University of Bath / Brunel University research which concluded:
"if we want to make cyclists safer, it is our roads, or driver behaviour, that need to change"
So can we all agree now, that cyclists alone cannot make themselves safer?0 -
Hilarious. Given that despite the many tests that motorbike riders have to take, they all seem to be suicidal maniacs, who seem to try to break every law going (and then blame car drivers).
ALL?????? Some yes, but not ALL..... You must be a typical push bike riders, everyone else is to blame except the bike rider... PLUS you lot should also pay some sort of road tax.. as you are riding on it..Work to live= not live to work0 -
Aye.
The driving test has eliminated all deaths, injuries and accidents amongst the car and lorry drivers and motorbike drivers hasn't it.
no.. you are totally right it hasn't, BUT why should we put up with over weight people trying to ride a bike on the road, that haven't been on a push bike since they were in school, and take up most of the flipping lane, by snaking all over the place....Work to live= not live to work0 -

You put up with slow drivers, learners and tractors taking up the whole lane, so what's the beef with cyclists? They have as much right to be there as anyone else...... In fact if you want to get technical, they have more right to be there, because riding a bike on the road is not dependant upon passing a test and that right cannot be taken away (unlike drivers).
Truth is, it all comes down to size = importance.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

An overweight person driving a car takes up almost all of a lane anyway.COOLTRIKERCHICK wrote: »no.. you are totally right it hasn't, BUT why should we put up with over weight people trying to ride a bike on the road, that haven't been on a push bike since they were in school, and take up most of the flipping lane, by snaking all over the place....
An overweight person regularly riding a bike might soon become a normal weight person and a skilled cyclist.0 -

yes dont generalise about motor bike riders.....insert massive generalisation about bike riders..............finish with rant about a non existent road tax
Seriously,how deluded are you?
my friend has a Fiat 500. pays £0 'road' tax
Do you go around baying for them to pay 'road' tax?
So following the same rational on emissions, what would you charge a bike?
We all pay for the roads
Someone who is housebound pays for it,people who walk everywhere pays for it
Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) goes into general taxation0 -
deluded no....There will come a time where there will be a tax on push biker riders, riding on the roads, an YES I think there should be a test for them too, And as for the car with 0 tax, yes I hate that too, as that was all a gimmick to please the EU to show that we are trying to do something about emissions, its not free, its just shifting payment to someone else.. push bike riders can still get arrested for riding a bike on the road while drunk, so if the same rules apply for road users, they should be licensed and taxed...Work to live= not live to work0

If the government decide that cyclists should pay road tax, I'll pay it. If they decide we need to be registered and insured, I'll do that too. A test? No problem.
Do I want to do any of those thing? No.
But I ride bikes, so I'll do what I need to do.
The point I'm making is your rant is with the government, not cyclists.
It would also need a good deal more credibility before anyone started to listen to you.Make everything as simple as possible, but not simpler.0
