Who else is having a humanist ceremony?

Options
We're having a humanist ceremony.

There is so much choice as to what you incorporate - what have you decided to do that's unusual, yet fitting?

I had a humanist ceremony in April and loved it

We lit candles and mixed colour sand.

We had a handfasting, exchanged presents, drank from a quaich.

We also did band warming and jumped over a broom.

We had two poems read including yes I'll marry you by Pam Ayres but we changed lab to husky on one of the lines as we have husky dogs.

For the present exchange I gave OH a memory card to show I hoped to always provide him with memories he would want to keep. He gave me his bank card as I get all his money anyway (in joke)

We used our favourite colours throughout the ceremony so anything to symbolise me was blue him purple.

Everyone loved it and throught the whole thing was very us

I thought you were on about a funeral!
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

I want one but I live in England, and we just can't afford to do that on top of the legal bit :(

I liked the idea of incorporating a hand fasting and wine ceremony where you mix a red and white wine together to make a rose wine.

If only mixing red and white made Rose. I tried that once and all it made for was a very, very sore head in the morning lol.

I just looked up 'ring warming' - I really love that idea, thank you.

Yeah we really like it meant that our guests could get involved.

We had heather whiskey for our drink as OH forgot to get anything so they had to buy it quick in the gift shop lol tbf it was welcomed as it was freezing!

Sadly Faith I think we have too many folks at the ceremony to do a ring warming. We have around 50 coming

I like the idea but, we'd still have to do a legal ceremony as well, I think? And we're already likely to have a budget wedding, so there's no way I can justify two lots of expenses.

Plus, I find the traditional vows romantic, so they work for me :)
  • I got married 3 weeks ago and had a humanist ceremony - it was be far the best part of our whole wedding.
It was an extra expense as we had to do the legal bit the day before (couldn't get the timings to work out on the day) and the costs for both did add up, but I don't regret it at all.
We had a ringwarming ceremony (had nearly 60 guests there) and it worked perfectly.
We had lots of singing, really personal service and did our own personal vows - a lot of our wedding day is a bit of a blur, but the ceremony is crystal clear in my mind and worked out exactly as we wanted.:)

Yes, unless you have the wedding in Scotland. We're fortunate enough here that Humanist weddings are legal here.
