    Well salaries do not follow a strict normal distribution,because it isn't symmetrical about the mean. But the concept of median salary works quite well.

    The Poisson Distribution is also not normal but has a valid concept of median. As we all know this distribution records the number of fish caught every day in France.

    The Median is the value for which at least half are greater than or equal to and at least half are less than or equal to.
