Final salary pension, aged 55

OH 55, laid off work due to workplace injury 7 ish years ago.
Has final salary pension. Trustees, who are also directors refused early retirement 4 or 5 years ago (when retirement age was 50) , saying it was detrimental to the fund AND other ex employees had asked for this but been refused?!
I thought at the time, we'd asked for ill health retirement , but looking at the way the paperwork was worded, we actually requested straight forward early retirement.
I will say again what I said before.
Your OH had to quit work thru injury in the workplace. you took 15K for this. But misunderstood what you signed for (as should have possibly included early ill health retiral).
So, did you take advice when he left work re the settlement for injury? Does his condition mean he cannot perform that work or any work? Have things changed re his injury/health since you received payment?
Ask them in writing to answer you in a set period of time.0 -

The £15k wasn't a settlement from employers, they offered nothing. It was from a personal injury claim and settled out of court via their insurers.
His condition means he can't perform his old work, or any manual work involving lifting. The condition has worsened and now involves arthritis as well as back injury.
Thank you so much for your help and advice, I will write tomorrow and give them 3 weeks, which I think is reasonable.0
