Waitrose London no longer selling loose items

Waitrose Direct London have stopped selling most loose fruit & veg items. I think this is a real backwards step. For me, one of the reasons that I shop at Waitrose rather than Ocado is because Waitrose sold loose fruit and veg. The other reason is to get free delivery but you can get that with Ocado in some slots. Ocado have much better stock availability (substitutions and missing items are rare). I think Waitrose are going to see a lot less of my custom going forward!

Ah, so it's Waitrose Direct that you're talking about.
'Waitrose London' had me worried for a moment.0 -

What is Waitrose Direct London Depot??
I thought all Waitrose orders were from local stores?

Waitrose customers in London get orders delivered from a depot not a store. This is generally has been a good thing because delivery slots don't get as booked up. However availability is still as poor (lots of substitutions) and they still can't cut steaks. Now they can't deliver weighed items. You used to be able to select store delivery as an option in London. Now it seems that you can't.

Ah I never knew that, being in an Outer London borough mine always said it came from a store and not being a bigger store it didn't have everything I wanted (and the choice has got smaller over the past year) so although I shop in store I order my Waitrose items from Ocado.
Given the rise in online shopping, it seems a shame they are now offering less options ^0 -
Waitrose do seem to be moving away from Loose produce in stores as well.
My local one used to do a fair amount of loose fruit / veg (Apples, Stoned Fruit, Root Veg & Citrus) but now only stocks packaged rubbish. As a consequence the amount of stuff I have bought from WR has reduced to practically zero...only ever go in for the free coffee.0
