Amazon Selling

I am considering setting up an online selling account with Amazon and am after advice as to what level do sales need to reach before having to declare these to HMRC.
If you are a pro seller on Amazon do you have to set yourself up as a self employed business?
I am currently unemployed, are you able to trade on Amazon and claim job seekers allowance.
Any help or advice would be gratefully received.

I sell on Amazon as an individual, not business, just selling books/dvds that I've got for a little extra cash. I've never heard of having to declare these earnings as its petty money e.g £3 for a book. If anyone does know you have to do this, can they PM me as I've never had any problems and been selling on there since last year.Up and onwards to the future!

If you sell your own items then you don't need to tell HMRC or declare yourself as a business . It is immaterial whether you have a pro selling account on Amazon or not. As all that does is make a difference to how fees are calculated.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Are you acquiring books specifically to resell on Amazon, or merely selling books that you no longer have a use for?0

I started selling some books I have but based on the success am now looking to moving into buying to resell and develop into being an online bookseller.
In that case you will need to register as self employed with HMRC, there is no lower limit that you can earn before you need to declare it.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
