Sad Stories

There were so many sad stories written on the Oykos FB wall in their recent comp, that I think it made the happy entries stand out from the crowd (e.t.a -the winner and runners up all had happy creative entries so don't be put off entering if you don't want to share your life story).
I don't mind if people enter comps with happy or sad stories, but I am with you Blue, I would not personally want the world knowing about the difficulties me and my family face.£630/ £20140 -
Thanks - yes, I seriously don't understand why people would want to tell the world that a dear family member of theirs is dying????
How bad would it be for someone to post that a family member is dying of cancer and then for someone who knows that family member to read the post!!! They might believe it and get really upset and even send a condolence card!!!:TA big thanks to all who post and sprinkling lucky dust to all who enter :smileyhea0 -
I am a bad person I know...BUT....I just had to check :embarasse
After reading this thread I wondered just how much notice a huge company like HoF took of folks effort to enter comps that required you to comment.
Now each to their own when attempting to win a prize (maybe the sad tales are true maybe they are not - I don't mind either way I only have my own conscience to live with). So after posting this yesterday.....
"DEREK says: I should win as I am a foot fetishist with a penchant for being touched up by strange women"
.....and getting the message "Your comment is awaiting moderation", I thought it would either not be accepted or I'd find a strongly worded email today telling me never to enter their comps again.
They have let it through...I confess I'm a bit disappointed!"The hammer of the gods will drive our ships to new lands,
To fight the horde, singing and crying: Valhalla, I am coming"0 -
I haven't entered but might go and write 'My consultant has just told me than I am going to die by the end of October because the drugs that are presently keeping me alive and kicking will no longer be free on the NHS - and as I am unemployed and living in a cardboard box, I can not afford to pay for them.....so as I am going to die please could you choose me to win so I can look my best for when the angels come down to collect me. They may not be able to attach my wings if the knots in my stressed shoulders are not kneaded away by a professional spa masseur! Thanks for the giveaway - I am dying so please pick me!!!'
you win:money::rotfl::T0 -
GARGHHH! People who post comments like these annoy me so much haha!
Would love to win a Sky box, my cat has just died and it would really make everything okay again.Every Saint has a past. Ever Sinner has a future.0 -
I detest the sad stories. Everyone has their own **** to deal with. Some more than others, but we all have highs and lows. Everyone deserves cheering up at points but I find the idea of a 'who's life is most traumatic' competition really, really distasteful. It has the potential to leave genuine people, who are already having a tough time, feeling even worse!February wins: Theatre tickets0

They drive me mad.:j:j:j Good Luck :j:j :j0

These sob stories really really annoy me, I find them a very passive-aggressive method of trying to win something.
But the irony is, many of the comps that seem to attract these stories, are random draws!!0 -
It's funny how different we all are here. I don't at all mind when people share their sad stories. I tend to take people at face value, and I've never been one for 'British stoicism'. I think life throws good and bad at us, and I'm comfortable with talking about both.
I've mentioned before about when my kitten was run over and killed, how I won a competition that honestly did help me through that. I guess some will think that's pathetic - I'm fine with that too. There are worse things to be
What drives me mad is when people are intolerant. Oh well, as I say, I guess we're all different.
Blu XI am brave, I am bruised
I am who I'm meant to be
I'm not scared to be seen
I make no apology
THIS IS ME!
When you talk down to others it says more about you than them.0 -
Gosh i've just had a read through them and some of them are really depressing.
For some of them, i'm just not sure if they're joking or if they are actually serious (i think i've seen it all.)
Some are clearly taking the P though!0
