Stolen money online

Just created an account as read a few different posts that kind of related to the situation.

The situation is this, my father has an online business bank account with the RBS. He uses the online feature every day to check up on things. Last week he went to log on as usual and a sign came up stating the site was under construction he thought nothing of it and left it till the next day. The same sign appeared so he phoned the bank to be told"no maintenance was taking place. however had he made an online transfer for a sum over £90,000 and sent it to the Czech Republic?"

Whilst my dad was then on the phone ten minutes later to the fraud squad the mouse on his computer started moving itself and the computer shut down.

The fraud squad informed him that he had been hacked by a very sophisticated system and until they hear back from the Czech Republic (who are not obligated to even reply) there is nothing they can do about it.

The bank has tried to blame my dad stating he must of opened a dodgy email.

Where does he stand?

Please help

Thank you

Tell us a little about the business:

How many employees does it have (including any directors)

What is its annual turnover on its latest accounts?

What are its assets worth on its latest accounts?

This may sound a bit nosey but it will affect the response.
  • It's only a small haulage business with about 6 employees; 4 drivers a secretary and a transport manager. There could be upto 30 sub contractors.

My dad is the only person authorised for banking in the business.

I honestly couldn't tell you what the turnover or assets are.

    Thanks for speedy reply

    Okay

Six employees is a start. However, if it has turnover or assets of over €2 million then it cannot use the Financial Ombudsman Service.

However, I still think it is worth complaining to the bank that it has allowed an unauthorised debit.
