    I think you're wrong - I expect to see the OP back in 6 months time to tell us how we're all idiots and that he got all 4 loans at 1.99%APR and bought his leg stretching business (or what ever the opportunity was) and is now a multi-millionaire.

    Crazy idea but the theory you can't borrow more than 50% of income is equally off the mark.

    I wonder what would happen if an A1 credit worthy customer applied for say 4 £25000 loans (where he would almost definitely be accepted if it was a single application) at exactly the same time.

    It's not theory - it's a rule of thumb based on affordability. For some lenders it will be a higher % and the occasional company don't factor it in for some applicants.
