Training someone to do my job?

Couple of weeks ago we had a new guy start, I got called into the office and told I had to train this guy to do my job, he would then go around learning the rest of the jobs so he could fill in if others are sick etc, It was put to me "for the security of the company"

Problem is I keep getting little hints from people that I am getting the road and this guy is replacing me, Now you'd wonder how would they no, with our firm everyone knows who's getting sacked before the person actually gets sacked.

Should I be worried about this or am I thinking to much into this? I think whats happened is I've sent so many random CV's around looking work someone has tipped of my boss and he's covering his own !!!.

A teacher gets around 40K a year average.
Unless you are contractually paid top teach or instruct others, just do your normal job and ignore the new guy.

You are suggesting the OP ignores the request to train the new guy?

Check with your boss. Ask a direct question if you want, or ask something more general like 'I think I've taught him most things now, maybe it's time to move him on?' and see what happens.

That's if you want to listen to what is actually gossip, rumour and speculation in the first place. I would actually suggest that the ones dropping hints don't actually know anything, but are adding 2 and 2 and getting 5!

Your contract will state your roles, if it does not mention training, then do what your contract says.

Most contracts state 'other reasonable duties' which will include anything the company sees as reasonable.

Remember to add training new starting member of staff onto your CV where appropriate.

I can't see anything you can do in this situation other than what your boss tells you, so worrying won't be productive. I doubt any manager ever said "He did such a bad job training his replacement, we had better keep him on."
But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,
Had the whole of their cash in his care.
