Thanks for all of your replies. I have just run a cycle at 90 with some bleach to see if that helps. I have been really flummoxed by this as like my late mum I always took a pride in my washing and having it pong is horrible.

It seems that the T shirts and tea towels are the worst culprits.

It is interesting what cornishchick says as I did a wash on Friday which was the T Shirts and tea towels, hung them on the dryer and switched on the dehumidifier, my logic is that It will dry them quicker. They stunk by Saturday morning even though they were bone dry. On Saturday I washed a load of towels at 60, same as the other wash, I didn't put the dehumidifier on and Yesterday the were fine, they didn't stink at all.

Next step will be to wash the tea towels and Tshirts and not use the dehumidifier

Thanks all, I knew I would get suggestions here as always :T

I live in a really hard water area and I find that my clothes smell less fresh if I don't use some softening powder in the the wash. It makes a big difference for me, especially with towels and tea towels.

What you need is air moving - so if you MUST dry indoors you would be better using a fan in the room rather than a dehumidifier. An open window (if possible) will also help.

Have you cleaned the filters on your dehumidifier recently? Maybe the smell is coming from that. We had a leaky roof in my last flat and the landlord put a dehumidifier in to dry the room out once it was fixed - it was old and made the room smell musty.
