Hair extensions left bald patches :(

Options
Hi guys

Probably been seen before, but my very good friend's hair is just terrible.

She decided she wanted hair extensions, so had a consultation with a girl who her friends used. Now me personally said to her, i really don't think she will put extensions in as your hair is weak and thin from wearing clip in hair so many times.

Surprisingly she agreed to put them in. Now after a few weeks I could see bald patches at the sides. My friend did not go for the maintenance. She had them all taken out last night and the stylist said the reason for the hair loss is because she was two weeks overdue her maintenance.

I have just had a look and its so much worse than I thought, she has bald patches the size of an peach's, a few of them. What hair she has left looks like its about to break too, its just awful!

I understand that she never had the maintenance which is what the stylist is blaming this on, but I strongly believe she should never have agreed to putting them in.

Feel so upset for my friend, she is a beautiful young girl :(

xx

When she removed the extensions last night, she charged her £40. I really thought she may have let her off that, my friend was too shy to ask :(
  • Not much can be done now other than her staying away from the clip-ins and looking after her own hair - good conditioning, no heat styling etc.

if you have weak damaged hair the weight of extensions probably would lead to breakage.

Did you friend have the glued in ones or braided ones? the glue is not has bad but you should still have hair that can take the weight.

\your friend will have to try and treat her hair with either oils or deep conditioning treatments to try and prevent further breakage

Would she consider getting it cur shorter so that the new growth will match up with her current hair quicker? If she had a trendy short style would she be ok about her hair not being long?
  • Hair extentionists should ask a series of questions to find out the condition of a customers hair. There should ideally be a break between having hair extensions in purely because yes they weaken your hair as the hair extensions are applied to your own hair and pull down on it regardless of which method is used.

There are other factors too which can contribute to weakening the hair. All should be assessed at consultation.

If your friend has been wearing clip in extensions for a long time then it is possible that she has weakened her hair but this should have been picked up at consultation and the hair extentionist should have held off.

Yes your friend should have gone back for maintenance appointment but it would be interesting to know if the extentionist explained the importance of the maintenance. It seems that both parties have not realised the importance and how serious it should have been taken in the first place. The hair extentionist should be insured.

Your friend definitely needs to refrain from putting any hair in weather clip in or actual hair extensions. A good cut would definately help. If she isn't able to live without the long hair, I would recommend she gets a Long wig, they are fantastic and would be great in this case!! Good luck!

  • There are many different reason for hair loss ,but one of the main reason is alopecia areata, in which hair disappears in circles on the scalp and body seem to attack hair follicles, then going to hair loss. For the prevention of androgenetic hair loss with bald patches that is caused by aging. For hair loss you should be maintain a good and healthy diet because poor nutrition may lead to temporary hair loss.....................
  • You have to use hair extension full stop products methods ensures your natural hair is not damaged, does not hurt to sleep and is reusable. Apply hair extensions with expertise so that they are not visible and your extensions hair, in ponytails and pulled back off your face.

I had hair extensions put in a few years ago. They actually fell out of my hair (maybe my hair is too staight/smooth)! I don't think it's normal to be left with bald patches, something's gone a bit wrong there.

She needs to stay away from hair extensions all together all methods take there toll on hair especially weak hair. Yes they need be maintened but they shouldn't cause drastic balding spots like your friend has. However put them in clearly only cared about the money which happens alot.

I use to wear clip in's basically everyday and I didn't have bald spots but my hair was thinning and wouldn't grow properly. I didn't have the money this year to buy new ones (cheap ones just look terrible) and so have gone without. My hair is in much better condition, its longer and stronger and I've learnt different ways to style shorter/thinner hair. Just youtube easy updo for short/fine hair and there is tons.

I only wear extensions now for going out on a night out or very special occasions. Clip in's are only meant for occasional use not everyday.

Your friend could try a half head wig or 3/4 wig. These slide in at the top of your head so not as much strain on the hair. Plus the whole of your head is covered by it so you wouldn't see any bald spots as the hair is tied behind the wig. Sounds a bit mad but loads of people wear them now. Beautyworks do fanastic ones. I wear one for nights out now as it takes literally 5 mins to put in. They do synthetic or real hair ones. The synthetic are gorgeous and look like real hair if you don't mind the fact you can't style them with heat.

See this review and tutorial of them on youtube.

I think you should guide her to some one who could repair the damage for ,I think that laser treatment would help her a lot on that.

Do you have a spammy link you could post as a recommendation perhaps - or does your spamming just extend to real estate companies?
