Your experiences of Unemployment

  • I have not used the UJM, I am talking about job applications in general. If I did have to use the UJM, I'd have a separate CV for different job types, and amend each just before sending to take into account the job specs.

You could do that with UJM but you have to upload the CV each time and had you used UJM, you would know how impractical this is under the current system. ;) There is still no provision to be able to attach a cover letter either and given the cost of setting up the UJM website, I am not sure why it is so ponderous and inefficient in that respect. The DWP claims it is in place to help job seekers back to work but it seems to be largely used as evidence to issue sanctions if used incautiously.

Incidentally, I do have individual applications for each job and as I said earlier, I would never send just a CV in normal circumstances.

Of course it is to issue sanctions!

I would only use that system to 'tick boxes', my own applications would be using the system I have described previously.

'Damned if you do, damned if you don't'. Sanctions are all about the whim of JC advisers or LMDM assessors if you appeal. It should not happen in a sensible world but we now have the wholly subjective system that makes no sense simply because no one has been able to define a system for objectively finding the terminally work-shy so the rest of us have to suffer.

Yes, it's called 'having the Tories in power'.

According to the Tory MP on Sky today the JS wotnots are there to give advise and help you into work! :rotfl:

Seems a good idea but it didnt happen a couple of years ago and from what ive read on here it doesn't happen like that.
  • I have been out of work for about two months now, living in a privately rented house. I have joint custody of my kids, so they are with me a good proportion of the time, however because I get Child Tax credits, I can't have council tax benefit, and I'm getting just £35 a week housing benefit. The child tax credits, JSA and housing benefit barely cover the cost of rent and bills, how I'm supposed to eat and go to interviews etc, I've absolutely no idea!

Or course it doesn't as they are not employment advisors they are just admin staff to be fair and are not skilled in various industries, like finance and banking, retail, media, catering/hospitality, education and health etc

For example I was sent to see the national careers advisor and they could only come up with 3 websites to look on for jobs where I use over 30 and only 1 of the 3 I hadn't used. What use is a list of 3 for anyone.

    Good afternoon all,
Thanks for reading. I have unfortunately been out of work for two weeks now, the first time since I left school (about 13 years ago).
I have applied for around 50 jobs in two weeks and yet heard back from (or even had a acknowledgement) from around 10.
I have had to apply for Jobseekers allowance and had my appointment with the condescending little wotnot at my local job office.
But what I have really found most aggravating, is the lack of help and guidance that the local authority give you. Specifically on any benefits (Other than JSA) that you are entitled too.
Im not looking to be out of work for long, I have bills, a mortgage and a partner and 6 month old baby girl to provide for. I have paid my taxes since I was 16, so why do I keep being told ' sorry Sir you do not qualify', or words to those effect.
Has anyone else experienced this? Or any advice on how to get Working tax Credits, or any other benefits. Also if you were out of work, how did you get back into work? Any hints and tips all appreciated!
    Thanks all!
Yes, it's a tough lesson to learn, being unemployed, dealing with Jobcentre, claiming benefits.

Don't forget it when you hear the exaggerated nonsense about claiming benefits & the unemployed.

    Good luck.
