hi all,
newbie here
Really really confused
I've seen a platinum 1.04 carat ring, F colour and Vs1 for 6000, it is GIA certified and on the setting there are 2 small diamonds on either side.
My budget is 5600, and i'm hoping I can maybe get the ring down to that price, but now what I need to know is....is it worth it?
I saw online I can get a 1.10 carat, colour D same clarity but no GIA certificate for that price.
It is certified by their own company who are GIA trained though that fits my budget.
Set in platinum as well, and much more diamonds on the side
I am confident if I took in my budget in cash I could maybe get the first diamond for that price, but is it really a good deal?
if not, shall I look elsewhere?
Just to let you know, we already have a home, where we are comfortably making the payments, and bills, as in we are not right on the line.
Our wedding was originally planned for 10k, we went over and now costing 12,500 hence I really can not afford to go over my budge for the ring.
sorry for the long post, I need the ring to propose by second week of November and if I go with the online company, it takes up to 6 weeks
so all help really appreciated before I miss the date I need to propose by.

Buying something of that quality and price...if you dont know exactly what you are buying,I would stay away from online.
A lot really depends on how you are viewing the ring also...is it an investment that will become an heirloom...will you one day want to "trade it in" for something else..its not such a ridiculous suggestion...ive seen people upgrade their engagement rings after 25 years or so...or do you see the ring as a love token that youre not at all bothered by it clarity and provinence.
What would put me off personally would be no certification...you can obtain some, and I would suggest you do because your insurance company will need the specifications an valuation to be able to add it to a home insurance policy!
Personally if you like the ring you've seen "in the flesh " I would look at securing it at a better price...if you are a cash buyer then realistically you could get 10% discount and possibly 15-20% on a good day or with the right persuasion tactic!
The difference I suspect in the centre stone on each ring is minimal, and my guess would be that the additional carat weight for the larger ring would be in the side stones.
I deally any stone with a weight of .25 and above should come with documentation to include the specifics of it...without that it does make for difficulty in insuring and also open to you needing an independant appraisal which may come out differently to the online specifications.
In my opinion ring 1 would certainly be within your capabilities of budget.
The other option is to ask a jeweller what loose stones they have and get it set in platinum to your specification...this can work uot very cost effective particularly if you buy a diamond that the jeweller may have had for a while,as their margins for discount can be much higher.
Good luck with your search.frugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!
2017 toiletries challenge 179 out 145 in ...£18.64 spend0 -
Go to an independent jewellers who own the actual diamonds in the shop (not just show ones that the company lend them for display) them. Sort of jewellers will advise well and give u a good deal too. Xxx
Good luck x:j I'm getting married on 22nd Febuary 2015 :j0
