MF- Final Paperwork.

Its been around six weeks since I made the final payment on our mortgage, everything appears to have gone fine, I received a letter from my lender advising us the balance is clear and they have contacted HM Land Registry to 'remove the charge against our property'.

I was wondering if there is anything else I should do, such as get something in writing from Land Registry, or get hold of original documents, or do nothing?

I am asking here because my lenders customer service tel number is useless and simply rings for ever and my two emails to Land Registry have so far been ignored.

I'm happy to do nothing but just checking.

Thanks...

*bump* I would be interested to know. From other posts people have generally said there is no such thing as deeds papers now as its all electronic but wondered what documentation you need as if its still advisable to give it to a lawyer for safe keeping?

What you want is your Title Register to check that the mortgage lenders charge has been removed, it can take over 6 weeks for this to be done. You can apply for the Register which costs £4 by post http://www.landregistry.gov.uk/public/property-ownership or if you have a good local solicitor you can pop in and ask them to get it for you - takes them 10mins online.

But the Land Registry normally does send you, as the owner, a letter when your Register changes.

Also, if you do have any docs/deeds relating to the property keep them safe :) While almost everything is electronic now this can get lost or scanned incorrectly as the Land Registry does still have the human element
