Your partner appears to have no negative credit items on her record, just a lack of data on credit performance that ends up with her getting a fair rating. In the context of a mortgage application, that's OK.
  • Back to the original question, would I get a mortgage with no credit history?
  • Just book in to see an branch adviser they can do a quick check on their computers and get a basic yes/no. While you're there apply for a credit card always handy to have one for emergencies.

Hi, me and my girlfriend are going to apply for a mortgage, the house we want to buy is £119000, we have £12000 deposit (90% LTV) so we want to borrow £107000.

    My girlfriend earns £28000 and i £30000.

My girlfriend has a healthy bank balance, no debt, and has never had credit because she has had no need to.

I have about £500 debts coming out every month, £800 if i include stuff i could get rid of i.e gym membership, sky, virgin, mobile phone etc.
I think my credit score is poor, don't really know why cause i have always paid on time, maybe its due to the fact i have a few things currently on credit, but these will be paid off in a year or so.

We are just wondering if Natwest (my girlfriends bank) would refuse us a mortgage either because of my girlfriends lack of credit or because of my credit so to speak. Plus when they ask for my bank statements they will see that my money depletes every month, but thats with paying for a place of my own (we don't live together yet)

We could definitely afford this but would the bank think so?

    Regards
You might as well ask the Wizard of Oz to give you a big number as pay a Credit Referencing Agency for a so-called 'credit-score'
  • Oh, my boyfriend wrote that, I wrote this thread! Sorry to be confusing.

We don't think my boyfriend will be approved because of past bad credit, this is why I was asking if I would get approving on my own.

Oh yes, looking at your salary you must be your girlfriend rather than yourself.

If things look good under the criteria of post #5 and you keep a clean bank account, your bank would be likely to lend to you. If you have been saving over a sustained period with a mortgage lender, they would too, probably. The only way you will find out is by asking lenders.

If you do find you need to take out a credit card, make sure you pay it off every month in full

The BT issue is a negative one but if that's all he has that is negative then he should be fine once it's gone.

His credit record will be visible to anyone who checks yours if you have a financial association, like a joint bank account.

BT have said via email and telephone they are talking with Equifax about the default, he said this morning that it should have come off now it's been 72 hours since He resolved it.

I really wish they would hurry up!

The only reason i want to use Natwest is that they have my saving records and account history for the last 15 years, and me being a customer might work in my favour?

This will make no difference to Natwest. Use a whole of market broker fro the best deal for you.
