Does anyone else prefer not to have a hamper?

Options
I love making hampers and looking at the amazing ones on here but I much prefer having individual gifts to unwrap (my inner child!). I don't mean I would be unhappy to receive a hamper from someone (quite the opposite) but my family wrap up each item instead for me, makes pressie opening last so much longer!

  • I don't ask for presents, I'm one of these people that do without so everyone else can have a lovely time, big smiles and cherished memories etc, I don't like people to waste money on things like chocolates and toiletries although this is what people tend to give me and I really wish they didn't.

I would absolutely love a 'Spirit of Christmas' hamper, a hamper with those things that make Christmas a little bit more magical, not anything overly expensive, but things like some festive earrings, some OPI over the top glittery nail polish that you could only get away with wearing for Christmas, the original Santa Claus movie the one with Dudley Moore, a small festive tipple, Christmas PJs, A Christmas lush bath bomb for before bed etc.

I guess that would be an adult Christmas Eve hamper then!:p:D Sadly no-one has ever asked before, except you of course, even a filled Christmas stocking would be lovely but OH doesn't get the hint despite mentioning it's the one thing I really loved and miss about Christmas.
  • I'd never heard of a Christmas Eve hamper etc until I came on here! And have to say no-one I've mentioned it to has either. I personally prefer individual gifts myself.

The only kind of hampers I've heard of are food hampers, and of course the charity hampers we do here for the local pensioners and homeless shelters.

  • I'm not bothered with Christmas morning pressies, I love watching the boys hack through their stash.

But I would love for someone to make me a Christmas eve one, its my fav day of the year. Perhaps with new PJ's, slippers, hot choccie, a silly Christmas DVD and some nice smellies to use on Christmas morning. The boys always go to bed early really excited and I actually get a couple of hours with just me and DH. I think I might need to drop a few hints to him this year ;)
This time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.
    Fingers crossed x
  • I'm going to wrap up all the things individually in my sister's chocolate hamper. It may not look as good but she'll enjoy it more that way.

I have a love/hate relationship with hampers. I love the concept and depending on what theme you are doing they can look incredibly expensive whilst having cost very little. Some things would just look naff individually wrapped eg I intend doing my DD an 'acting' one cos she's recently started drama classes. The garment carrier for her show costumes would be fine as an individually wrapped up present, but other things like a bar of wonka chocolate to represent a character she played this summer would just look daft wrapped up under the tree and though it could go in her stocking, then it wouldn't automatically 'connect' up that there's a theme taking place.

I don't like that you can see all the contents with a cellophaned hamper, though I got round this last year by finding lidded baskets.

I made my mom a cellophaned holiday themed hamper with loads of individual gifts, but I wrapped them separately so she couldn't see what they were through the wrapper.

I had big things and little things in it too, so as you said the little things would have been silly wrapped up on their own (the littlest one was a packet of ear plugs as she was going on holiday with my aunt who snores like a chainsaw), but in the hamper I think it all fit together well. I had little tags attached to the wrapped presents with writing on them e.g. there was a travel pillow with a tag of "for the plane journey..." because she's always uncomfortable trying to sleep on the way there, a snorkel and an underwater camera with "for the beach..." on them etc.

Could be an idea for at Christmas time? She seemed to enjoy guessing what each thing was through the paper and with the tags!

I have never received a hamper or given one as a present.

What do you put them in?
