Council tax arrear / bailiff arrears.

Options
Hi, I have received a letter few days ago informing that I was in arrears in my council tax and that the bailiff were demanding amendment full if not a visit will be taken to make a key.
the letters mentioned that they have obtained a liability court order on the 18/06/2013 .. which is two weeks after I have paid my monthly.
I was not even aware of the liability order nor the summons.
I was not dealing with the payment as I am very ill . My partner did, v but he is an alcoholic.
Apparently he came to some arrangement not sure if it with the council or the bailiff as he can't remember what he does.
I was wondering I can make the payment direct to the council through their city council payment, instead of dealing with their bailiff ?

my husband will not say or speak anything about it , he is putting his head into the sand.

to be honest I am not sure how to handle it as I have so much crap at the moment.

  • Call the council directly and ask them what your current situation is. They should be able to tell you how much you owe and what your options are. Usually you will be able to make payments directly to them. Be aware that CT is a priority debt and one that can ultimately land you in jail for non payment. Don't let that scare you - just make sure you speak to the council asap and get this dealt with.

Thank you I will do I know what I owe now after checking on their website. I have made a payment already directly to the council as it is very difficult to get through it . On the plus side I am disabled and telephone use are a big issue for me. thank you once more.
