Hi,
I'm new but need somewhere to talk and seek advice!
I don't want to go into everything in too much detail just yet but myself and my husband have been stupid with money for years and we are now feeling the strain.
I've had an awful week of realisation and have felt so down it's untrue. My husband thinks I'm on the brink of depression so I'm trying to do something positive.
I have completed the debt remedy thing on the debt charity website and they recommend continuing to make minimum repayments and any extra where possible so we aren't looking at a dmp just yet.
Reading around the forums it's nice to know we aren't alone in our problems and I'm really hoping to dig our way out!
Thanks for reading

Hi
Do you have anything around the home that you could sell? I found when tackling my debt that any extra I could pay off it (no matter now small) made me feel I was making a difference - as you can see from my sig I'm still working at clearing it. If you could ebay FB, car boot, zapper etc you may be able to make a bit more to pay off and make you feel more positive?
Also have you checked all your utilitiy bills etc to see if you can get them as low as possible? again this may free up a bit more each month that you could pay down the debt with.
Good luck, it certainly sounds like you are trying to get to grips with everything.0 -
Thanks cwal.
I have started a small second job which will help.
I'm going to try and find things to sell! It may be a job for when the kids are at school as they have rooms full of toys they no longer play with and wouldn't miss unless they knew they were going!Making £1,000 plus every month from home :T0 -
Use the energy you need for depression and turn it into determination. Make debt busting a debt project. You are self employed so used to book keeping. I always think I need to run my home like a business. Buying in at the best price not wasting not having too many things (money on shelves) be organised for Christmas b days holidays. Buy out of season for cheap deals eg winter coats in summer. Make ebay your new best friend. Read these boards! You will and can do it xx0

Hello and welcome
I started a spending diary at the beginning of September and it has been a real eye opener. I've got an app on my ipod and every single penny that I spend goes in there. It really helps me see where my money is going and also helps me to spot possible areas where I can make cutbacks.
When I started tackling my debt I felt a bit down about all the money I wasted and how little I had to show for it but now my focus is on moving forward and tackling the debt. Hopefully the knowledge that you are doing something about your debt and taking action now will help you and you'll start to sleep better soon.
Good luck and take care
Bet xWorrying won't stop bad stuff from happening, it just stops you from enjoying the good.0 -
I've been giving £10 a week to a friend towards Christmas so come December I will have £500 to cover that. Some weeks that £10 is really missed but I take two weeks off at christmas to spend time with my children and don't get paid so I know it's worth it!Making £1,000 plus every month from home :T0

Saving money and paying debts can become really addictive!!! It really can make you feel good. When i do get down time to time I throw myself into a challenge, there are many to choose from on the boards. If you put all your energy and thoughts into that, theres no time for depression to sink in xDebt Remaing £315 :jBreath out the past, Breath in the futureBig Dreams Start Small0
