    Just wanted to say Congrats!

We got married in December last year and it a perfect time of year to get married! Our theme was more Christmassy, red roses and berries, photo frame christmas decorations as favours. However a couple of things I can suggest are:

Candles - and lots of them! Makes for a wonderful atmosphere very cheaply. We had tealights in glass holders (9p from ikea) and big church candles (again ikea)

Mulled wine as a welcome drink - lovely to warm the guests as they come in, warm spiced apple juice is a nice non-alcoholic version

Fairy Lights - similar to the candles but fab, I got a load really cheaply that were battery operated from Au Naturel, the battery operated ones are fab for putting in flower arrangements

Cake - we had crystal beads on our cake wound round it with wire so they looked like snowflakes (sorry not well described) it looked fab and also was covered in edible glitter.

For pew ends in the marriage venue or church spray twigs with silver or snow spray and tie to the ends with ribbon - very cheap but lovely. These also look nice in big vases

Outfits - I had a beautiful bolero jacket made to match my dress and my bridesmades had fur bolero jackets, they looked so lovely and kept us warm (although I didn't need keeping warm as I was so excited!!!). Long gloves or floor length capes are lovely too.

Arriving in a horsedrawn carriage would be so lovely for a winter theme - like a snow princess!!! (sorry think I may be getting carried away!!!)

Enjoy your planning and have a great day - it is wonderful!

    Few ideas :-

Rather than a headpiece/veil you could go for a white (velvet) hooded cloak with faux fur trim and muff instead of flowers.

    Groom/ ushers - White tux's with silver/gold/ice blue waistcoat/cravat

Favours/name place - white/silver mini crackers filled with choccies/turkish delight and maybe a thank you note or little present boxes with mini mince pies/choccies or what ever takes your fancy

Cake topper - snow globe or something crystal/ glass looking

Food/Drink - if it's going to be a sit down meal maybe a winter veg soup, traditional roast, chocolate pud with white sauce and warm cider, hot chocolate with/without marshmallows

will keep thinking and good luck with your plans :D

How about a crystal boquet? I am making my own but you can get them for about £60 for a basic one so works out the same as flowers, but you get to keep it forever.

Work like you don't need money,
Love like you've never been hurt,
And dance like no one's watching

if you do go with turksih delight as favors, it doesnt have to be rose flavor. We had some lovley flavors at the continetal market. Coconut, lemon, mint, kiwi! so yummy!

  • Thanks you guys for all the great ideas. I went to try on dresses today and found two gorgeous ones... A Mori Lee and a Benjamin Roberts, want to see if I can get them cheaper elsewhere now!! Love the crystal bouquets etc, I found a guy in my local market that will do me a deal on swarovski crystals as I will need quite a few for cake toppers, table centrepieces, decorations etc. OH loves the Turkish Delight idea so need to source some nice flavours now. So ice and crystal and sparkles everywhere plus lots of candles that the venue provide I think it will look magical... I LOVE organising this wedding!
  • When thinking about whether or not to have a winter wedding, here are some of the many advantages to consider:

    *
You can save a lot of money. By holding it in the winter you can save up to half the cost of a traditional summer wedding and get more for your money since winter is considered as "off wedding season".
    *
You can get exactly what you want. It’s more likely that you will be able to get the hall, restaurant, church, or other location of your choice. But since not that many people get married in the winter, the same popular locations are usually available during the winter, sometimes at a reduced cost.
    *
More of your loved ones may be able to attend. By holding your wedding in the winter it’s more likely that family and friends will have fewer social commitments and thus will be free to attend your wedding.
    * Winter weddings are different. Do you want your wedding to stand out and be memorable, a winter wedding can be a great way to do something new and different for your wedding.

    Thanks
