Fibre Broadband Question

I live on the outer reaches of our local exchange and experience a very slow internet connection most of the time.
How much does Fibre Broadband speed up comping in relation to the speed with which pages open etc? Is it worth it?

I subscribe to PlusNet fibre-optic broadband, speed approximately 55 - 60mg.
Pages load as quick as a flash, but there are still some websites where pages load more slowly.
Our telephone exchange is approximately half a mile away from home, and the BT fibre-optic cabinet, a matter of metres.
We have our phone line and calls also with PlusNet, paying just over £100 annually (to gain cheaper telephone line rental), and approximately £18 a month direct debit.
It helps that I've just bought a new computer which speeds things up as well.
There are broadband review sites which will give estimates of speeds you could expect to gain. Not sure of their names at present, possibly others will advise.
I wouldn't go back to ordinary speeds, fibre-optic is the way to go!
Good luck0 -
You need to have fibre optic installed down your road though. My uni had fibre optic installed and it ran over 300 people's internet at 100mb so I say it is pretty good.
Sadly I live in the middle of nowhere so we have no chance of getting itx

You can check fibre availability in your area via: http://www.samknows.com/broadband/broadband_checker
The fibre is usually just installed to the nearest BT cabinet with copper wire for the last bit.
Hence the new cabinets eg: http://community.bt.com/t5/image/serverpage/image-id/5169i0490CAF7530F0F68/image-size/original?v=mpbl-1&px=-1
We changed to BT Infinity last year & went from circa 5mpbs to about 50 mbps.It really does not make a difference but you also need a PC with a decent amount of RAM to exploit the new speed.0 -

I'd say :-)
You must be miles from the exchange or have some wiring issues?0
