Banks and charges

I got made unemployed not so long back and now I am stuck because I cannot pay all of my overdraft off. I did get it down to with in my set limit but the bank keeps charging me £x.xx each month for having the overdraft then they charge me 30 quid for going in to the unauthorized overdraft through no fault of my own and I cannot afford to keep paying it.

If there anything I can do? I don't suppose the bank really care if your working or not as long as they get money.

I keep applying for as many jobs as possible so I can get some decent money so I can pay of everything instead of this JSA which is a pittance.

Hi there, first of all head over to the "reclaim your bank charges" forum on these boards. They will give you all that you need to claim these charges back from the bank.

The lump sum you get back will help reduce your overdraft.

Also have a look at the post for newbies that southernscouser has prepared at the top of these boards. This will help you put together a statement of affairs and then the others who come here might be able to give you advice as to how to make your money go further so that you do not keep going over your limits.

    Good luck!

May seem a silly question, but have you actually told your branch that you are out of work? There may be something they can do.....it's worth telling them in case they can - if they can't / won't then you are no worse off than at present.

Good luck with the job applications!

Ever thought of trying temp agencies for work? They don't just do admin jobs.
