Next Door's Cat Again

  • I agree totally. However I also read the beginning of the thread where everyone was saying "call the RSPCA." I know from past experience they are unlikely to take him. They are even less likely to rehome him.

Talk to your neighbour first, even a note through the door is a start. I have difficult neighbours, you have my sympathy.

Well, she has been here all day and has now gone. I have just been to pick up my son and there is no sign of cat so maybe she has taken him with her now the nights are getting cold. I haven't seen him all day and that is unusual.

Sounds to me like one of these obsessive ex boyfriends/husbands about their partners.Doesn't want the cat but doesn't want anyone else to have it either. So sad.I really feel for you.Who knows what will happen to it now.

The only other explanation is that he is terrified of her and has done a runner in which case he will venture back to where he knows there is food and some attention. What a horrible woman.

Well, her car is back this morning. I know I shouldn't spy but the cat basket has gone from the garden. I am hoping it is because she has realised he is ill and is keeping him inside. I hope she has come back because she is looking after him or is taking him to the vet. Anyway, at least he is not running around in the cold looking for food.

I really don't think you can just make the cat vanish without at least an attempt to talk to the owner.

That's really a very basic thing that needs to be done here, no matter how shy you are.

I don't want him to vanish. Don't forget it has been me who has been looking after him and I was about to go out and buy some nice food for him.

Its just that I am torn because she is here now. She can look after her own cat. I was just looking out for him when he was abandoned, which I know he was.

OP, even if your neighbour is back now, I would still try and make an attempt to speak to her - you never know, she may turn out to be a very shy, but lovely person who has had problems recently through no fault of her own.

Go with your husband if necessary, but maybe use it as an opportunity to change something in your life as well as the cat's - maybe say, I hope your cat is feeling better now, he was looking so poorly recently, and I hope you don't mind but I did give him one or two nice titbits to eat... (don't tell her you've almost adopted him for her!), and see how the conversation goes.
  • What sort of a nurse must this woman next door be?

I would hesitate in handing him over to the RSPCA they would likely put him down, It's not fair but it seems he needs you and you are doing a great job. Have you a PDSA nearby, they will see animals for donation

this maybe the best nurse in the country for all you know but a terrible pet owner.

We aren't even sure she's a terrible pet owner.

Well, I assume she went off to work and then the daughter's car appeared so maybe they are taking care of him as there has been no sign of him.
