It costs a Council £9k to paint a simple disabled parking spot outside a house .... and another £9k to remove one.

With all the slow processes, expensive people and procedures, stupidly high training budgets/H&S stuff ..... they couldn't do it.

It'd be down to charities to take/use people.

But - would there be a job suitable for everybody? Not everybody's got the skills for even simple work - they'd still need to be slotted into an appropriate job for their skills. e.g. you can't expect an obese person to go litter picking by hand on day one, they'd need to be a broom pusher.

I'd want a desk-based, indoor job. I've no outdoor clothing and get horrid debilitating ear-ache if out in the wind.

Even steel capped boots for people doing hard/manual work would add up to a lot of money spent/wasted?

Good idea - hard to implement because of red tape and cost.

Technically probably not. He said "from Africa" and your last place of residence doesn't define race. Had he said "African" or "Foreign" then you might have a case. I came back from 6 years in Asia. I am British.

The country is getting too sensitive about all this stuff.

    Consider this:

    1. My neighbour is on benefits. [Not racist].
    2. My Lithuanian neighbour is on benefits. [Fact. Not racist].
    3. Most Lithuanians are on benefits. [Racist, although could be fact].

    Or:

    1. Women don't clean behind the fridge. [Sexist]
    2. My wife doesn't clean behind the fridge. [Fact. Not Sexist]

    Or even:

    1. Immigrants tend to be unemployed. [Racist if you say it]
    1. Immigrants tend to be unemployed. [Non racist, if said by charities and lobby groups trying to insinuate that racism is rife in employment]
  • i have a piece of filth that lives near me - in a HA flat - he sits there all day, with his mates, chatting, laughing, drinking. Has a pet dog (that he mistreats). Has various cars (in states of disrepair). The man is utter scum and it is a disgrace that this welfare scrounging scum sack lives anywhere near decent real people. This is the system the bleeding heart liberal lefty idiots have made. A world where on one side of the street decent people strive to raise their family in a vastly overpriced house whilst on the other side, workshy scum sit and chat all day - and probably have more money that the workers. A welfare state should be a safety net and no more - and only for a set time. This bloke should either be forced to work or starve in the street. If I saw him freezing and starving in the street i'd laugh in his lazy face.

May be the issue is that they are not fully knowledable of British culture which includes an understanding of how to use the NHS appropriately.

If you have just arrived in the UK would you know how to use the GP for in hours emergency and regular appointments, the out of hours GP service and 111 for non-emergency out of hours health issues and 999 / ambulance service only for emergency medical situations?
    I think....

I don't really like turning into a right wing Tory but it's so jading watching with exasperation a system that is p**s poor at identifying those in need and those who just want 'the man' to look after them.

Why turn into a right wing tory. They have had 3 years plus to sort him out and haven't and probably won't.

exactly right Michaels, they shouldn't be using it at all.
  • also, people who want benefits should be made to sit 9 to 5 in "offices" before they get their free money. why should they get to lie in, watch jeremy kyle and chat with their mates all day, whilst real people have to get up early, travel on trains, or sit in traffic, work and come home late???

    .

Getting up before you go to bed, working 36 hours a day and being whipped with razor wire is actually preferable to watching Kyle and the rest of cay time TV.
