Does not ticking 'yes' to receive updates mean no win?

Hi, I'm loving reading all the posts on winning comps. I've never won anything but am always entering competitions. After filling in my details it always says tick box to accept terms & conditions, so I tick this, then it says to tick a box if you want updates by email/post etc, I always un-tick this box, but I just wonder whether this puts me in a disadvantage and whether they check the boxes. Would the companies be mean enough to say, well she doesn't want updates from us so we're not giving her the prize??

Also, I wondered if any of you have any tips on winning prizes? Any does and don'ts? I don't like the ones by phone where you pay but then I've just read that people do actually win!

Should be a random draw so ticks should make no difference to the outcome.

Re winning tips my main one would be that it is just a numbers game.Enter loads & your wins should increase but it is still a random event so again is not certain.
Personally I never enter pay comps via text or phonecall.

11 If you opt in or out of their mailing / 3rd party mailings, does it affect your chances?
I ALWAYS indicate a big fat 'no' to both of those, unless it is something that I'd really like to hear more about or a comp you enter by signing up for their newsletter.

It should make no difference to whether you are included in the comp or not, although some smaller companies may break the rules. I have to say I’ve been really lucky with wins & it seems to have made no difference whatsoever to my chances by always opting out where I can. It just means that I end up with less spam & on less junk mail lists.

I've won from many phone/text in comps that only cost 50p/upwards
so sometimes well worth entering as there's lots posted in the text/postal thread,
