Lidl Panettone

Hi All,
We have an elderly lady who we buy for at Xmas - she used to be our neighbour and we've kept in touch (not as much as we should though) since we moved and get her a little token something at xmas. She's on her own and doesn't 'need' anything for the house etc as such. She's not very mobile so I usually steer clear of smellies and opt for something food-wise that she can take to her daughters on xmas day.
Last year i gave her some local preserves and honey, and we've done the usual chocolates, biscuits etc before.
This year I was thinking of making a little festive hamper and saw some mini panettone in L!dl this evening for 99p each.
Has anyone had these previously (or the big one) and what were they like? Its not something i usually buy myself so don't want to get her something that tastes awful.
If anyone can recommend anything else from their xmas range too that would be great. I was thinking perhaps some stollen and similar.
TIA.

Panettone, stollen and chocolate gingerbread, they're all good from Lidl.
I adore the panettone, it has the tartness of orange peel and it's light and fluffy. It's quite sweet though. If you're putting together a hamper then the fun-size versions of the above would be nice I think, although the panettone is just the size of a muffin despite its bigger packaging.0 -
I agree - Lidl's panettone are great! Bought the large one two years ago but was only able to get small ones last year. As mentioned above, they are smaller than the box suggests, but for a single person probably an ideal size.0

I love to pull it apart and dip in coffee. They are lovely from there.0

Thanks everyone, and thanks for the heads up about the size - although as you say for a single lady I think it would be just right.I love to pull it apart and dip in coffee. They are lovely from there.
I had the idea last night of getting her some Christmas coffee (or just a nice coffee) for the hamper too so that ties in well
Can't believe it's only Sept still and i'm already Christmas planning / shopping. :eek:Feb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16

What a lovely idea!
There's also the little local matter that if there is anything in the pannettone she can't eat/digest/disagrees with her meds (unlikely but usually left unmentioned), it makes a lovely little present to gift on...0 -
I got the big one for my grandparents, it was ok but quite dry (compared to other ones)Best wins in 2013 £200 and Mini iPad. 2014 no wins. 2015 2 nights 5* hotel with £300 vouchers plus £1150 Harrods gift card

The mini stollen are gorgeous. Usually sold out well before Christmas.t0

I've always found the Lidl panettone and pandoro just as good as any I've had from elsewhere. Also love their mini stollen as others have mentioned.0

It's sounding like I'd better get a couple of the mini stollen - well, I really should try them myself tooFeb 2015 NSD Challenge 8/12JAN NSD 11/16
