How much do you tell friends and family?

Hi, I've been wondering how other people cope with a high level of debt and how much they divulge to friends and family regarding their financial circumstances.

I have found a couple of friends supportive, but father in law who previously would openly ask "how are you getting on for money" now ignores the issue and hasn't brought it up again since the issue was brought to light. I know some people will see it as too much of a private matter and will feel uncomfortable getting that insight into our financial matters. On the other hand I feel that we maybe stand to gain support if family lessen the pressure to go on trips, holidays etc.

How have other people coped?

Ive not told my family - im too embarrassed :-( I have told a girl at work I was going into a dmp only because she is in the same situation I was and we both said we couldnt see a way out - I spoke to Stepchange, told her about it and now she has aswell. I wont volunteer the information to anyone but if someone mentions they are struggling I would tell them about my experience xx

I have not spoken to my parents (only close family of mine), though I am aware my wife has spoken extensively about our money problems to her brother.
