Incorrect default dates on credit files

With 2 of the credit ref agencies I have different data for the same defaults ( I have 2 defaults with a pdl company)

I.e on call credit it says
Start date : 12-10-10
Default date : 05/04/11
Default balance £120
Shows as closed and satisfied
2nd ) start date 2/1/11
Default date 02/08/11
Default balance £125
Shows closed and satisfied

And yet on experian it shows as not satisfied both start dates the sane but now both defaults dates are December 2012 which is wrong. Plus the default amounts are £303 and £275?
They have both been left by the pay day loan company and not anyone else.

Am I right in thinking all data must be accurate and that the default dates recorded need to be correct ?

    Yes you are right.

The data should be fair and should certainly be consistent as well.

You need to write to the loan company and state that the entries are inaccurate and unfair and not in accordance with the ICO guidelines for the filing of default notices. State that you require them to correct your credit reports to show the correct original default dates, the correct default balances and that they are all satisfied.

I'd also check equifax before you write, and save copies of your credit reports as they show now just in case they change the correct file to match the incorrect, not the other way round.

Also tell them that if they do not correct them then you will be taking it to the FOS in addition to the ICO.

  • Update : they are refusing to amend the default date until I send them a copy of my credit file.

You can send a copy of just their entries if you want. Certainly would not send them your entire report.

Remind them that as they are reporting the incorrect data, they have all the information they need to correct the info, and that you will not tolerate any further attempt to delay correcting the entries.
