Probably for the best. If you use it you could open a can of worms, since technically it should have been declared.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

I agree. If you're not using the account, you don't really need it & shutting it puts it out of temptation's reach.hi at the moment we are not using our account with the woolwich/barcleys they are sending us new cards and pins but at the moment we are with the coop with a cashminder acount i think it is proberly best if i just go in and shut the account alltogether it just hubby will be a bit miffed that i would of shut down this account when it has better facilitys on it then then one we have with the coop
As for it having better facilities than the Co-op one, that might well be the case, but it's only a realistic argument for keeping it if you can actually use them without worrying. The fact that you're already concerned about it tells me the answer to that is "no". BSC #53 - "Never mistake activity for achievement."

Yes. If you close it without using it, then you cannot be open to accusations that you deliberately kept it open to gain yourself an advantage, or so easily fall back into financial trouble.
Your OH may be disappointed, but I expect after being discharged for a while he would also prefer not to have the OR on his back again.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

And make sure you're the one to close the account asap, rather than your OH. He already disagrees with you about whether to use the account, & even if you don't use it, he might. Once that happens, the damage is done. The quicker you get the account closed, the better off you'll be.BSC #53 - "Never mistake activity for achievement."

A joint account nearly always (not sure if I have ever heard different) requires both signatories to authorise closure or removal of one of the signatories. I expect that may be a requirement in the law or in the banking code anyway, in order to protect people.
It's best to get this confirmed directly from the bank, or it should be stated clearly in the accounts terms and conditions. The T&C's should be available on the banks website.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB
