Hi, I wonder if anyone can help.
I have received a credit of £300 in my bank account this morning, from a company called Pacific Network SE. I don't know of this company, and was not expecting any credits to my account today. Barclay's can't give me any information additional to that which appears on my online banking.
Very strange.
Thanks

looks like an American Loan company - http://www.pacificloans.ca/
I'd send them an email. It might be a mistake, might be worse.
Also check your credit file0 -

If you haven't applied for any payday loan/ loan or anything then I would be concerned that there may be a possibility that your bank account has been compromised. I'd go back to the bank and talk to them about ensuring no withdrawals/payments go out your account for this amount.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
Thank you very much for that. Interesting link. I've never heard of any of those companies, but the gist seems to be that this is a funding agent for various payday loan companies - I've never had, or applied for such a loan. So clearly someone has used my details to apply to someone. How galling I'm sure they will find, that they have transferred the money to my account, and not their own! lol
So I guess I need to wait and see what demands for payment arrive, and sort it out from there. The problem is, whoever this company are, they are going to want more than their £300 back, and while I will be delighted to give them their money back, I am NOT paying them one brown penny of interest - had they the ability to look at my account, they would have seen quite clearly that I would not be requiring a £300 loan. Ridiculous.
The more one gets into thinking about this, having never really done, the more it shows the internet up as an insecure place to transact financially with institutions unfamiliar to anyone except the desperate and vulnerable!
Thanks again for the advice - It should be interesting to see how this goes.0 -
As sharp82 says - check your credit files to make sure there are no unknown searches on them.0

It could get worse than it is currently. I wouldn't just be waiting to see what happens.
One thing ID thefts do is to obtain access to your bank account somehow (cloned card etc) then apply for a loan to go in your bank account, then actually withdraw or spend the money that has gone in to your account. So that when the payday loan company comes to retrieve the funds the original funds deposited have long gone.
I would contact the bank and ask their advice, possibly about cancelling your card and blocking any potential transactions out.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
Yes, I have done exactly that, just for safety. Other than this £300, everything on all my accounts is as it should be, but better safe than sorry! It could get worse than it is currently. I wouldn't just be waiting to see what happens.
