When we start out on the Debt-Free Wannabe trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free. .

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending. :money:

Morning :hello: wow I can't believe it's Thursday already!

Quick post from me as should be in the shower already!

    Morning DFW-Jedis,

    Thanks for the starter DNM.

    The List:

:starmod: Checked coolant/anti-freeze levels in car. Too low. Eek! Pumped up tyres to conserve fuel. Washed car by hand. Done

:starmod: Watch DVD from free subscription trial.

:starmod: Check when next Tesco Clubcard vouchers are due. November.

:starmod: Write letter to Financial Ombudsman. In May OH applied for a savings account. OH received a credit card instead. OH cancelled credit card. Credit card disappeared from online banking page in July; presumed all sorted. Credit card has not been cancelled!
    Done

:starmod: Fit new £2 lampshade in hallway. Done

:starmod: Sew button on OH's £1 trousers. Done

    :starmod: Attend Tesco Food Evening.

    :starmod: Check accounts.
    Done

:starmod: OH's relatives coming for coffee at 9am. Offer homemade scones.
    Done

:starmod: Move cash out of savings to pay bill. Done

:starmod: Read up on Halifax CashBack Extras. (Link) Not a bad offer. 15% back at Argos. 10% at Homebase. 10% at Play.com at any time in the next moth. Activated this for free in case we decide to use it.

:starmod: Deep clean kitchen floor. Done

:starmod: Clean house using washable cloths. Done

:starmod: Calculate how much savings interest I'm due this year. 66p. By the time I've used electricity to move the funds in and out in between paying bills I actually don't think it's worth me using the savings account as my savings are so small and interest rates so meagre!

    Offers:

:starmod: Two for one at Burger King (Link)

    Morning all,
    A few small things today:
*Free exercise as spent 2 hours clearing up the courtyard & re-arranging pots so as to get some autumn colour without spending any money. Done.
*Clean house using minimal products. Doing it as soon as I sign out.
*Dinner as per meal plans - home made pizza. Put dough programme on bread machine & use rest of dough for bread rolls for rest of week's packed lunches & freezer.
*Pick salad leaves/radishes, etc, from garden to serve with pizza.
*Pick another bunch of grapes for dessert.
*Start rounding up everything required for tomorrow's major budgeting session. Scary bank statement today in the post. Will be relieved to get down to dissecting that line by line & getting October budget in place.
*Make tomorrow's packed lunch which will involve some soup from the freezer.
*Pick bunch of flowers from garden to cheer up the lounge windowsill.
    *Continue knitting Christmas present.
*Investigate the link sent by Debenham's customer services which shows that there is indeed money left on my giftcard (as I knew there was!) as the problem was their website, not my giftcard, or for that matter, my brain! Proves it's ALWAYS worth following it up if you think there's something wrong.
    Have a good day, everyone,

    *peeps around door*

Hello everyone, long time, no post I know :o

Thanks to DNMS for starting us off, and nice to see so many familiar "faces" :)

Have not been entirely on the dfw bandwagon after paying off my cards, although on the plus side have not gone backwards. (At least I haven't...). Think I got a bit overexcited about being able to spend money on all the things that I haven't over the last 3 years. And it's been lovely. However, I am now at a new crossroads.

It turns out that while I was scratching about for money to pay off the debts, OH was withdrawing significant amounts of cash on his credit cards, so we are now set back quite far. The underlying issues here are not entirely resolved, and I personally am not losing out while the money is paid back. Not sure about this approach but it is very important to OH.

I feel the best thing I can do is try to get myself together and cut back in other areas. With that in mind, here is today's plan:

    B/L/D from stores - B/L so far!

Email friend to remind her about the £40 she needs to pass me - done

    Work some overtime

Lovely tin of Millicano coffee "bought" with reward points off coffee packets in work :D

Heating not on yet, but turn radiators down halfway in rooms that aren't used as often in preparation (can't turn them off as house got very damp the year we did)

Nab some blu-tack from work to put over unused key hole in dining room patio door (old style lock that lets in a hell of a draught!)

Investigate mysterious £80 that has appeared in my account! - oh my. I actually paid it in MYSELF... YESTERDAY :embarasse:wall:

That will do for today I think. Need to ease myself back in slowly!

Have a good one guys :)

    Hi everyone,

I had my interview today for a temp promotion, not too sure how it went to be honest :undecided I'll find out next week if I get a second interview, fingers crossed. I am feeling so down again as if I don't get it this time (I have applied for this role 3 times now...) then I don't think I want to be here at all. I know I can do it I just keep getting overlooked. I don't know what else I'd do instead though...

Thanks for starting us off DNMS.
ShootForTheMoon - That's an amazing amount to raise, well done!
bt1 - If you save 70p a day for 5 days a week all year then you save £181.96 if my calculations are correct! It really does all add up.
Carrie - Nice to "see" you, sorry to hear your OH has been using the cc's though.

    Today's plan:-
    • Making use of free water at work
    • Food from stores
    • Dinner from meal plan - Bangers, mash & veg
    • Stayed in for my lunch break to avoid spending
    • Log calories & exercise on free apps
    • Checked birthday bingo
    • Check online banking & enquire why our 0% overdraft is ending next month, I am sure we had longer on it...Really must do this tonight!
    • Check for new mystery shopping opportunities
    • Enter some comps
    • Do some surveys
    • Declutter & flylady
    • DH hopefully doing some overtime today
    • Heating off, fleecey dressing gowns on instead
    • Keep an eye on items listed on fleabay
Hope you're all ok & have a great MSE day x

  • Hello everyone,

Missed yesterday's post, everyday seems to be the same for me at the moment,

*meals all planned for the week,
    * lunches have all been left over dinner (and they usually taste better!)
*only spending money on things to make dinner or things we've actually run out of and need to be replaced.
*spending time in the evenings doing surveys, awaiting £5.00 paypal from Swagbucks, £15.00 amazon voucher from Toluna and I can cash out £10.00 sainsburys voucher on Valued Opinions or wait until I get to £15.00 and cash out Amazon voucher
*starting to think of ideas for homemade Christmas gifts, I've just put in a holiday request for the middle of November so I will be able to spend the week making them

Today I will be doing the following as well:
    * NSD - unless OH needs bread for sandwiches tomorrow in which case that will be the only thing I buy!
    * Heating staying off, it's been relatively warm the last few days but I think it's a bit cooler today
    * Still not using winter duvet, unless OH goes back on nights anytime soon I think we're a long way from this
    * Start a list of things to take away on holiday in a weeks time
