I'm thinking of getting an electric bike

You could spend a fortune on an electric bike, or you could get a high end lightweight road bike for the same money. Seeing as electric bikes are heavy and designed to assist up those hills, I personally think a lightweight road bike would actually be a better investment.
I know which one i'd rather have land on top of me after some idiot driver rams me off the road for not paying "road tax" (which doesn't exist).“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Way to completely miss the point...:T
Are you actually incapable of understanding that the main reason some people choose a bike is NOT for sport/fitness?"There may be a legal obligation to obey, but there will be no moral obligation to obey. When it comes to history, it will be the people who broke the law for freedom that will be remembered and honoured." --Rt. Hon. Tony Benn0 -
I have the Woosh Sirocco CD and although a little heavy it makes cycling up hills a lot easier, it's really easy to de-restrict too so you can get 100% motor output all the time.0

Possibly worth a look at the A to B bikes website http://www.atob.org.uk/electric-bikes/0

Not sure how much credibility I'd put in that website, there are some dubious statements on it.0

i use a kudos tornado to cycle 20miles across london then 20miles back, 10% incline
charge it once to make it either end
faster than tube and hell of a lot faster than car
dont mistake it for excercise though, before i started using it i used to cycle the entire distance on my own steam now I struggle to do a 2mile ride unassisted0 -
I have had an electric bike for 4 years. I also have a normal bike for cycling to the allotment and btw my dh is a lycra cyclist but at 67 is just doing about 60 miles at a time. He is no fanatic, just loves it and loves the health side as he has a heart condition and copd. He has cycled since 4 and knows loads about technique, maintenance, cycle build etc. He encouraged me to get a good electric bike, the best I could find
About my electric bike:after a lot of research I got a kalkhoff agattu from

It is a pedelec ie gives me assistance when it senses that I need it and has various grades so I can get as much exercise as I want. It is very smooth and runs extremely well and the battery lasts for over 40 miles. A brilliant bike and gets me to places I could never walk to0
