Poor credit rating mortgage, and paying chunks off mortgage

Hello everyone,

Im looking for a bit of advise please.

I have just finished paying off a DMP, so my credit rating is poor at the moment, but I am planning on saving about £30k over the next 5 years for a deposit for a house.

My default started 3 years ago and so im 5 years, the default should have come of my credit file. But will this affect my mortgage application?

Also, I have worked out that I can save about £30k every 5 years through ISA's and a share purchase scheme at work.

I am quite new to mortgages, so my question is:
Am I able to pay off chunks of my mortgage every 5 years without incurring a fee? Can I get a new mortgage every 5 years or switch mortgages to a different provider?

Thanks
