Santander Car Finance and DMP

Hi All

I have a DMP set up with StepChange but I had problems making payments to my car loan with Santander a while back

Basically before the DMP was set up, Santander wanted payment in the middle of the month, 2 weeks before payday and I couldnt do it. (when I took my car loan out the salesman asked me what day I want the payment to come out but Santander set up 10 days before)

They wanted £25 to change the payment date and I didnt have it.
So I had to cancel the direct debit and pay by card.
They they charged me £12 to pay via debit card.

I had to do this every month as getting through on the phone took ages.

Got myself into some messes and basically I have been charged debit card payment fees and late payment fees at the same time.

I have probably paid an extra £600 with these fees which I can't afford.
Im currently paying twice as much to them a month as my debt went to a debt collection company.

If I write to Santander and provide them details of my DMP, will I have a chance of getting the costs taken off my loan or at least refunded?

I can't give the car back as it's essential to get me and my partner to work and my son to childcare.

Complain in writing asking for them refunded, as they haven't really done anything to help you even though they know about DMP.

Maybe don't be too harsh to start with, maybe get a gesture of good will.

Failing that, refer to FOS.
