UJM linking to external site, virus alert.

I am just interested to know if anyone else has had this experience? I clicked on the Apply button for a job on UJM and my virus checker flagged the site as having a Trojan Horse. I get occasional false positives from official sites (ASDA generated one, for example) but this was a definite alert.

I don't know about the rest of you but I am quite precious about my computer equipment and even if the C in C of the Armed Forces said she was taking my computer, she would need to get around the hefty baseball bat, wooden chair, printer/scanner that was heading in her direction. It is not that any of the equipment is particularly valuable just that I treasure my communication (well OK, FS2004 and Il-2 1946 too :)). Needless to say I will not now be using UJM as a search tool although I will still record my activity.

Did you get a screen print of it to show the JC?

You should be reported to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Printers & Scanners for what you intend to abuse your printer.

No mate but I noted the Job ID. I backed out pretty smart-ish but I have done a bit of research since:

Apparently, it is a Trojan Horse linked to the fact that the old URL has been hacked (the job was allegedly advertised by Groundwork on a regional site). The entire site seems to be inaccessible but a Google search found the true URL and I should at least be able to track down the vacancy. Quite a lot of sites have this residual Trojan left over from hacks by all accounts and although it was Avast in my case that flagged this, it does show with other virus checkers. I am guessing that someone manually posted the job and forgot there was a new URL - it could be a genuine trap but probably not, no information on what the Trojan does but it could be a nuisance programme written to give deliberate false positives (I have corrected my OP) even when the site is re-constructed.

We know directgov webmasters do not check up so I was wondering how common it was

What was the job? I will have a look?

Did you report the job to the UJM? There is contact us at the bottom so copy link of the job on UJM and send to them

Having said that I have reported over 10 jobs and no reply from the ignorant people!

It's a dead one...it is no more...it has ceased to be...bereft of life, it rests in peace...if I hadn't hit the C in C with it, it would be pushing up the daisies...it is an ex-printer.

    Job ID 3694947

I have now contacted the webmasters.

It could have an innocent explanation but I still wonder how often this happens.
  • Job is genuine BTW and I have now traced it through a different route.

Cheers! I can see from my later search that the original site was hacked and I now have the appropriate app forms but there are clearly residual issues with the linked/hacked site. Not particularly professional by Groundwork or the DWP but it is a job I would not mind so it both got me thinking about losing an opportunity and also about how common these things are. There is a conspiracy theory over this one but it will just have to wait...which could just be a Blackadder quote following a very obvious one earlier. :)

I still want to hear about bad experiences though so please do not assume this thread is dead and not pining or the fjords.

Bad experiences like? That fact that ADZUNA are told to advertise ALL jobs with SW1A 1AA postcodes (Buckingham Palace) if they do not have the postcode of the job!! Oh why would they not have the postcode I wonder? Is it because ADZUNA are just a search engine and not an agency? Ah yes that's it. They take adverts off the net such as on TotalJobs placed there by Goodman Masson and add them on UJM.

All of their jobs are listed as London but they aren't.!
