Proof of deposit?

I am finally in a position to be able to buy a house and have the deposit money in my account.
Halifax have asked to see proof of the deposit as £6000 was paid to me but my daughters mother for payment I loaned her for a car. Will this be acceptable? Do they need to see 3 months of her bank statements too?

Thanks

Any documentation to support the transaction? Otherwise sounds somewhat spurious.

They will review on a case by case basis, given the physical value you may be ok and Halifax are reasonable although could easily not meet their underwriter discretion.

Assuming you are separated and listed at different addresses, may be more plausible. If this is some type of using money as she is living with you, but has damaged credit, bankruptcy etc. then they are not going to like it one bit as you are just trying to beat the system - not saying this is the case just making a point.

They will initially ask for 3 months statements, although can and will request more if they remain unsatisfied.

Typically, this would only be requested upon audit/credit team and therefore they may well have issues with the overall security of the case.

  • The £6k was build up over time at some point, before you lent it out - they'd probably want to see that and maybe a letter from her saying it's a non-refundable gift ie. she doesn't want it back (even though it was yours to start with)
