Advice please - Cotton Traders top gone out of shape

I bought a Cotton Traders top from one of their own shops a few months ago. The top has been on my back 3 times. Each time its been washed its shrunk in height but got wider. It would now fit me if I was 2 foot tall and 6 feet wide:D My wife has washed the top according to the instructions.
Problem is - I threw away the receipt after I'd made sure the top fitted originally. I've never had this type of problem before - lesson learned = keep receipts.
I've not got round to doing anything about it - the absence of a receipt making me unsure what to do. Is it worth taking it back without the receipt - after all its got the Cotton Traders brand on it?
All advice welcome.

If you paid by credit or debit card, pull out the statement showing the purchase and use that-shops only state you require proof of purchase, not a receipt.
I've never dealt with Cotton Traders so I don't know what their CS is like, but all you're trying to prove is the date of purchase, as the branding of the top proves it's their product.

The Sale of Goods Act doesn't require you to have the receipt, just proof that you bought the item from a retailer. If the item has the tag still in it, then you should be able to take it back for a refund.:rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0

Thanks folks. I paid cash for once! Unfortunately the tag is long gone - the Cotton Taders logo survives though.
Although I'm wary of a repeat performance, I'm only looking for an exchange, rather than a refund. I'm going to be in the outlet mall where I bought it tomorrow, so I'll give it a try. Fingers crossed!0
