There aren't any cheap washer dryers...Why a washer dryer? A seperate washing machine and seperate dryer is much better and cheaper. Washer dryers tend to be unreliable, low efficiency, low capacity and take a long time to dry just a few clothes. Seperate them and you can get twice as much done in the same time for half the price.

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

Find the space. Doesn't have to be neatly placed in a space set aside for it. Put it in another room. They aren't very good. How do you wash and dry your clothes now?

Browse the Argos catalogue and find one that you like with a good capacity. I would recommend no less than 5kg/2.5kg even for a single person as you will be forever halving the load to dry then drying the second half of the load. The more you can fit in the better.

Washing machines tend to be around 9kg and standalone dryers 8kg...so one cycle in a seperate washing machine and dryer will take at least 3 loads in a washer dryer. Time taken...many hours..and cost...a lot...you will feel like a slave to the machine. Due to the extra use it will fail quicker.

Just having a quick look myself the Samsung Ecobubble at £560 looks pretty good. B rated efficiency 8kg/5kg...not too bad and a fair price...

  • We have a hoover washer dryer that I wouldn't recommend!! Its 18months old & we've had 4 callouts already :-( . It washes ok but doesnt dry very well so I only use once in a blue moon as its more hassle than its worth!
  • Also previously we had a samsung washing machine. ...was amazing I'd definitely buy one of theirs next time round!

"find the space": only option is the garage (excluding the living room or garden) and that is not in clear view and no door directly from the house, so am not sure about safety.

previously in rented with washer dryer

Candy washer dryer cost £300 25 years ago, works perfectly. ( I pump cost £50 12 years ago,) still perfect.
  • Honestly the term 'washer-dryer' and the word 'efficient' don't belong in the same sentence.

Both my daughters had them bought as wedding presents because they were short on space and both of them were sold on in less than a year and two separate machines bought. The dryer went in the garage for one DD and the other put hers in the cellar.....neither ideal but much better than the waste of money and crumpled washing that resulted from a combined machine.

I'm sure I recall one DD telling me that a full load in the washer-dryer took 7 hours to wash and dry fully
I let my mind wander and it never came back!
  • hoover vision hd, used for over a year. 2hrs washed and dried. No problems with it. We have a messy 4yr old and run a garage so not like it has an easy life either!
