Account for deposit?
redonion
My deposit money is currently scattered across cash ISAs, my current account, a postal-only account, and some shares (yes, I need to sell those quick).
I'm not keen to keep large sums of money in my current account because so many transactions go in and out and so many people must have the account details, that security seems inevitably an issue to me.
I'd rather get rid of the postal account, since it's slow (and the rate is very poor).
So I suppose I need a decent account to consolidate the money in one place.
What account can I get that:

What account can I get that:
- Doesn't count as an application for credit or something else that might affect my mortgage application (I'm assuming this is possible?)
- I can open quickly
- Obviously instant access, without limits on number of transactions.
- I'd prefer phone to online
- The money won't be there for too long I hope, but higher rate is better

Looking back at this thread, I see that indeed I did avoid opening a current account as that might count as an "application for credit". I certainly don't want to do that now. So can I avoid that with a savings account?

How do you tell whether you're "applying for credit" by opening an account??0 -
good question, redonion,
I would be interested also in what others have to advise, as I have money all over the place that will hopefully be needed soon for the deposit0 -
What bank are you? HBOS gave me the option of opening a 2nd current account for our deposit.0
