Thanks for your input, maybe I was lucky then from what you said in your other post about Child Benefit checks taking a while sometimes to come through, mine as I say took minutes, and it must have all been obvious I should not have been paying any longer because as I also stated my liability to pay ceased too, all in the same phone call.
As for your comment about Secretary of State maybe not being able to issue refunds after the income support change, all I can say is I have spoken to at least 3 Operators outlining my situation to them anonymously ,and not one of those suggested that may be the case?
I tell you what though, it soon became clear that people at the CSA must be told to avoid even suggesting Secretary of State refunding money in cases where there is obvious overpayment, because on all 3 of those calls as soon as they had gone through all the "retrieve back from the mum... blah blah blah" stuff they all came out with, as soon as I asked in no uncertain terms for it to be paid back from the Secretary of State I got that split second or two of silence that said to me that they were keen to avoid that subject!
Go on CSAworkerx, be a devil go on, admit it, you are told to avoid the issue of Secretary of State refunds aren't you! Ha ha!
I can hear your answer now, don't panic, " the reason why we don't discuss the issue is because Secretary of State refunds are discretionary and not everyone will get a refund blah blah blah!
Seriously though, I appreciate your help and any answers you can give me, just having a bit of fun there, letting off steam if you like,
Many thanks.0 -

sorry didnt read this until today? Admit were told to avoid mentioning it? ill do one better for you.
Were not even trained in how that works, a general caseworker on debt/new client team/client service, where the vast majority of cases are based, I know for a fact are not trained on what happens when a refund is due, i imagine either complex or legal would deal with that situation, So yes, if you rang me id avoid the topic, just becuase i havent the first clue how/when youd get a refund.
Im annoyomous here, have no reason to not answer a question honestly.0 -

Hi csa survivor
I know this was a year ago but wanted to know if it really was that simple to cancel the payments over the phone .I rang csa and they confirmed child benefit had stopped so why wouldn't my payments stop immediately like you said with your work ?They have said this can take up to 3 mths so I'd be paying regardless that child had gone to Uni .Then il have the fight of trying to get my money refunded....what would you advise ?just keep phoning them ?0
